Guess who got a copy of the original Hellsing anime for five dollars? It’s an incomprehensible mess but I’ve always had a soft spot for it, call it nostalgia.
I first watched it when I was way too young though. WAY too young.
Some people call the manga and/or Ultimate an incomprehensible mess and I just sit there looking at them, “who are you and what language are you speaking?” XD
I didnt care for how poorly the writers integrated most of their OCs into it (coulda been a lot worse but still), and art team B needed help, but meager issues aside, mygosh I love the first Hellsing anime. ❤ I can hear that manic laugh Alucard gives in episode 13 jrsxjirvnhrshi Freeman should have gotten an award just for that fucking moment. 💗

And I agree with you about the OCs. They felt somewhat shoehorned in at times *cough* Incognito *cough* But simultaneously the larger cast gave the series a more slice of life feel. I have a much better idea of what Hellsing’s like day to day in the Gonzoverse than in the manga or Ultimate.
FWIW I actually liked the type of story they were attempting. There was a sense of intrigue and betrayal and conspiracies. They were trying for a sort of nuance that isn’t really there in the manga plot. However the execution was lacking.
They were obviously planning more episodes and a larger arc about Incognito’s handler. Alas we’ll never know if the writing for that would’ve been better. I remember being excited to see what would happen…but then the series was over.

Mygosh, Incognito needed a redesign… Hellsing seems to be a universe where everyone is covered so much you’d think Hirano has a fear of exposed skin. Seras, Schrodinger, and Dok show off a bit but Incognito is a walking nudist agenda for Ken dolls XD the gun thing was… it could have worked with better execution, vomiting green jello shots with spiral bullets in it.
Every now and then I hear in my head “WHILE YOU’RE THERE YOU CAN LICK THE DEVIL’S ASS!” How can people hate this??
What was really cool was the extra content. If we want more content anymore we have to follow RP accounts. Not that Ultimate trying to animate the manga wasnt a well-desired product, but its like “… we saw this already… and done better in the manga… can we get new stuff-?” It would have been awesome if they could have taken The Dawn and made their own ending, giving us some new stuff.
Gonzoverse gave Seras a wardrobe (but no way she’d wear that to a funeral…!) and more plot focus, plus FRIENDS! Farguson, Helena, Harry (before he died… then again, they all died XD) They put more political and religious elements in. Gjhdfkpdnjhj Y E S. Hellsing agency IS religuous and a government thing, theyre GOING to end up with political obstacles.
Though if Hirano was avoiding complex things he wasnt well versed in, we can be glad he didnt delve into political anything. The manga is boss as-is, halfassing this isnt like messing up bullet count or “no one bleeds that much”, lol.
I grabbed this off eBay due to price and it has the complete of both series on it. I have a program on my laptop to be able to play any region code. This is a Region 0 though. Plus well, that cover though. 😘
